Introduction to Skin Lesion Identification and Dermatoscopy has been developed to help cosmetic practitioners identify simple and complex skin lesions, including skin cancers, and to understand how to use a dermatoscope as a diagnostic tool. This foundational knowledge helps practitioners make safe, informed decisions when assessing a client’s skin prior to any cosmetic procedure.

It can be challenging to determine whether a lesion on a treatment area is benign or requires medical referral. This course aims to provide the fundamental understanding needed to recognise key warning signs, both visually and under dermatoscopy. While not a replacement for a medical diagnosis, it enhances clinical awareness and supports safer treatment practices.

Practitioners are encouraged to complete Fundamentals of Skin Science before beginning this module, as it provides a strong foundation in skin physiology, essential for understanding how lesions develop and present. By mastering basic lesion recognition, practitioners can confidently assess, document, and refer when necessary.
